Here in San Diego the weather has been like this pretty much every day, except that most days it has really been RAINING, like for REAL….
So in Flagstaff AZ, where my wife has been visiting my son since last week, this is what that rain looks like. (This picture is from this morning.)
My wife was planning to drive to San Diego this morning. Fortunately my son has it going on. He has a snow blower and brooms etc., and my wife is on her way down Interstate 17 now on to Phoenix. (There is probably no snow there.)
When I worked for Welch Allyn, I frequently traveled to New York to visit the Skaneateles Plant in Central New York, often in January. (I thought going to New York in January was a fun adventure, and I loved snow, but my co-workers not so much.) When I traveled to New York, I would typically fly on Sunday morning, leaving Lindbergh Field in San Diego at 6 AM, and with one layover, typically arrive in Syracuse NY at 6 PM. Then I would pick up a rental car at the airport, and drive to Skaneateles.
One time on January travel, there was a delay in the flight, and I got to the Syracuse airport at 10:30 PM, and the rental car desk closed at 11 PM. The only car available was a bright yellow Ford Mustang. Any other time of year, I would pay a premium rate to rent this car. Ford Mustangs have rear wheel drive and all of the weight of a Mustang is in the front of the car. This means that this car is less than ideal for driving in snow. I was an experienced snow driver from lots of skiing and I was dead tired and wanted to get to my hotel so I said OK. I drove the Mustang around Skaneateles for 3 weeks and never had contact with another vehicle. My co-workers were amazed that a guy from San Diego could manage that. There were a few days when the sun was out and the snow melted and I got to stretch its wheels…. that was fun !!
BTW, I’m not complaining about the relative cold weather in San Diego. I like it cuz this is December. One of the most annoying things about Southern California is that sometimes it can be the dead of winter (according to the calendar) and it can be 90 degrees !! Then 2 days later it’s 60 degrees again. (My daughter calls this “bi-polar” weather. I like that expression.)
I would like to wish everyone a Blessed and Happy New Year !!
